Grade 2 Swimming lesson (free play session)

So I have made it to my first holiday break! I’m tired and ready for a break but have really enjoyed it so far. I love working with the children, even the tricky ones and just seeing them grow and learn. Time is flying so fast here right now it’s crazy. I’ve been here almost two months. Over the past few weeks in swimming I’ve been preparing the children for the swimming gala which is happening on the last Saturday of half term, there isn’t really any chance of us winning, our pools are too small and we don’t have the capacity to be as serious as some of the schools we are up against, but the children are really excited about taking part so that’s what counts.

So a quick summery of what my job has been over this half term. I am a swimming teacher, a teaching assistant and general support. I also teach grade 6 and 7 music lessons with Michelle. In the evenings on Wednesdays I help out in the girl’s dorm with their sewing projects which I really enjoy, I’m also trying to make a dress for Diana, it is proving more difficult than I expected but I’ll manage.

On the 6th we all went to Akabashi with the Katja and Matthias Bachmann. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves going round seeing the animals and getting to sit on the roof of the car. It was a really great bonding experience! I took way too many photos 😂📷

My weekends are generally pretty chill although there’s a lot of cleaning to be done at home in the flat. Zambia is dusty at the moment so the house gets grubby quick! It’s quite the undertaking on all of our parts. I even take the carpet outside and beat it 😂. Cleaning used to be a big issue in our house because I’m not massively fussed about it but my flat mates really are so I’m learning to be more clean! It’s so much easier now!

Tuuuuuubbbees
Term finished on Wednesday. Thursday was Zambian Independence day. Pia, Julia, Diana and I went with some of the local English and German missionaries to Mindolo Dam. We spent the day tubing and other crazy activities. Pia even water-skied. It was a really awesome day and I loved it. On Friday we (all the volunteers) went with the Kirk family boys to the pool at ‘plot 20’.

Daniels beautiful photo bomb
Oh I almost forgot to mention we had a new volunteer join us on the 2nd of October from Germany. His name is Daniel and he is working with the IT department here in the school.

The think I am most thankful for right now is a break! I love working with the children but sometimes a break is just needed. Especially since our weekends are often a little busy.

Prayer points for this coming week. We are going camping tomorrow (27/10/2019) for 4 nights, all the volunteers and our leaders. Please pray that it will be a restful time away and that we can grow together as a group and get to know each other better.
